Do you wish to gain a comprehensive overview of the different kinds of collaboration, their costs and benefits? Would you like to be able to recognise and overcome the barriers to effective collaboration as a mean to enhance collaboration in your work unit and develop the necessary skills of a genuine leadership? Then the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) cordially invites you to join our online programme *Collaborative Leadership*.
A new “Sustainable Development Agenda” is already a reality, with very ambitious goals and targets that are aimed at significantly improving the life of billions of people in all countries. It is to be an integrated, universal agenda, focusing on people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnership. It is very clear that such ambitious results will only be achieved through multi-partner collaboration, engaging national governments, civil society, private sector, and international actors. Effective collaboration will be essential if this new agenda is to succeed.
On the basis of these needs, UNITAR has developed the e-learning course Collaborative Leadership. This e-learning course aims at strengthening the skills of managers and leaders in governments, the United Nations, civil society, or the private sector, to recognize when collaboration is effective, understand some of the most common barriers to effective collaboration, and to be able to put in place practical measures to overcome them.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
• Describe different kinds of collaboration,
• Describe the potential benefits and costs of collaboration in the context of achieving development results,
• Describe the concept of ‘effective collaboration’,
• Recognise different barriers to collaboration, in terms of willingness to collaborate (motivation), and ability to collaborate (organisational and leadership capacity),
• Identify possible strategies, techniques and tools to overcome these barriers,
• Describe the leadership skills necessary to promote and support collaboration,
• Develop a strategy to enhance collaboration in their work unit, addressing barriers in all three areas.
The course starts on 26th June, for a period of 3 weeks. In order to get the full benefits of the course we suggest you should dedicate 6 hours a week to your study.
