Introduction
Violent conflicts and wars have been recurrent throughout history. Only in the first half of 2016, millions of individuals have been affected on a daily basis. From increased insecurity, to economic instability and the collapse of law and order, the effects of conflict at the local, national, regional and international levels are devastating.
Built on the expertise of UNITAR and the Univeristat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), the Master in Conflictology presents a unique opportunity to professionals working within the framework of international and regional organizations, as well as governmental and non-governmental institutions to examine conflicts in all of their dimensions and to explore innovative approaches for their management, resolution and transformation, through a network of world-leading academics and experts
The programme aims at professionals (civilian, military and police) working in conflict-prone environments, within the framework of international and regional organizations (United Nations, African Union, European Union – among others), as well as governmental and non-governmental organizations. Additionally, the Master’s Degree and related qualifications are open to graduate students, young researchers and other academics interest in understanding conflicts and acquiring skills to address them. By choosing the International Master’s Degree in Conflictology, students gain access to a broad group of alumni spread across the world. Approach
A student-centered, multidisciplinary approach, in which the workplace is used as the main learning environment UNITAR and UOC have developed an extensive expertise in the delivery of online programmes.
Using Internet as a medium, students, practitioners and scholars are brought together in a unique virtual learning environment designed to valorize experiential and collaborative learning.

The Master in Conflictology is awarded upon completion of 60 ECTS.
The Master in Conflictology is a UOC Certified Master’s Degree, awarded according to the rules and regulations set by the Spanish education system. Giving its specificity, it does not give general access to Doctoral studies (Ph.D. and similar). Validation of credits for access to such programmes can be requested from competent institutions. Students may alternatively opt for a specialization certificate (Specialization in Crisis Management or Specialization in Armed Conflicts) upon completion of 15 credits or a post-graduate certificate (Post-graduate Certificate in Armed Conflicts and Crisis Management) upon completion of 30 credits.**Duration**
The maximum duration of the Master in Conflictology and the Post-graduate Certificate in Armed Conflict and Crisis Management shall be of 5 semesters. The minimum duration of both programmes shall be of 3 semesters. The maximum duration of the Specialization in Armed Conflict and the Specialization in Crisis Management shall be of 1 semester. The minimum duration of both programmes shall be of 1 semester.

Application Information
In order to be considered for the Master in Conflictology, students must have completed an undergraduate degree, be fluent in English, possess a valid passport or national ID card. Same requirements apply for the other programmes.

Applications received after the final deadline are evaluated case by case on a rolling basis.

Required Application Materials
- Application FormApplicants must complete the online application available at: http://www.unitar.org/ptp/registration
- Passport / National ID Applicants must submit a scanned copy of a valid passport or national ID card. Scans must be clear and legible.
- TranscriptsApplicants must upload transcript, mark sheet, or academic record for each institution in the relevant section of the online application. All transcript uploads must be accompanied by a key, a legend, or the back copy of the transcript. Non-English transcripts must be accompanied by an English translation. Full name of the applicant must appear on the transcript/record. Scans must be clear and legible. Supporting documents (or any other document) must not be mailed if they have been uploaded with the online application, unless requested by the Selection Committee. In case of troubles uploading transcript, applicants shall email conflictology@unitar.org and give a detailed description of the issue and attach the document in question. UNITAR reserves the right to require official transcripts at any time during the admission process. Any fraudulent activity or discrepancies found between uploaded and official transcripts will result in the immediate revocation of admission and/or dismissal from the programme.
- Essay / Academic Writing SampleApplicants may submit a 400-word-limit academic writing sample, in English. Published or unpublished academic research papers or a coherent excerpt from a longer paper are acceptable.
- Motivation Letter / Statement of Purpose (Optional)Applicants must submit a 400-word-limit Motivation Letter / Statement of Purpose explaining the reasons for pursuing the degree, the professional goals, and why they consider the programme to be a match for them.
- Recommendation Letter (Optional)One academic/professional letter of recommendation is required. Recommenders can submit recommendations by e-mail at conflictology@unitar.org
Application Status
Applications become complete and ready for review once all required items have been received by UNITAR. Students should allow 2 to 3 weeks from the date they submitted their application for its review by the Selection Committee. The Selection Committee will notify applicants by email if their file is missing any documents and again when their file is complete for review. These notifications are sent to the email address provided in the online application.
